"Play is the highest expression of human development in childhood for it
alone is the free expression of what is in a child's soul"

Curriculum

My Little University's curriculum is Teacher-led and Play based learning in a structured environment.
We are proud to be a part of the San Jose Smart Start program. This is a program to enhance literacy
in young children.  Our curriculum is also based on the California Department of Education
assessment program, Desired Results for Children and Families.  The goal of this program is to
achieve these four broad results for children.

Children are personally and socially competent.
Children are effective learners
Children show physical and motor competence
Children are safe and healthy

The basis of this curriculum is to begin the school year by introducing simple learning activities
and then continue to move to more complex learning activities to reach the desired results by
school year end.  There are assessment tools, a summary of your child’s progress, and parent
conferences, when requested, to aid in this process.  The program includes times of
developmental play (indoor and outdoor as appropriate); where they are encouraged to learn by
discovering and exploring each learning center.   There is teacher directed learning as well as
child initiated times of learning. Our program also helps children develop habits of observation,
questioning, and listening.  Socially, it gives them awareness of their own feelings and of the
opportunity to express those feelings.
